MELISSA HABERFIELD

B Physio

Melissa completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Albury, graduating in 2008. Melissa worked for five years across all areas of busy hospitals in both Australia and Canada, which gave her a huge depth of experience.  Having a particular interest in human movement and rehabilitation, during this time, Melissa completed her Bobath Training in Canada.

On return to Australia, Melissa took up roles in busy sports/musculoskeletal private practice based in Albury and Melbourne, allowing her to merge her two loves of sport and human movement.  This has exposed her to working with high level athletes and teams, including SEABL men’s and woman’s teams, medal winning Victorian State Basketball teams,  and Victorian Gymnastics teams. Melissa has travelled as Australian team physio to World Championships for Australian Rhythmic and Acrobatic gymnastics teams.  Melissa will also be a team physiotherapist for North Melbourne AFLW team in the 2019 season.

Melissa has worked at Charles Sturt University as a clinical educator, and is currently working at LaTrobe University as a research assistant as part of the Latrobe Sport & Exercise Medicine Research Centre.

Melissa also enjoys treating many non-elite patients including chronic pain patients, pre- and postoperative patients, and acute-injury patients.  She strongly believes in empowering every patient and helping them to be participant in their own health outcomes therefore improving their overall wellbeing.

Her major passions are in human movement and sports, particularly lower limb injury. Her treatment mantras include using a combination of appropriate manual therapy, movement-based therapy, pilates, strength work and education/patient empowerment to treat acute through to chronic patients.  Changing or improving the way a person moves and takes control of their health outcomes can be powerful and rewarding.
